Keltic clothing celebrate the Royal wedding

street party for royal wedding

Keltic’s celebration

I think we can all join in and say we wish Prince William and Kate all the best tomorrow for their big day. To celebrate we held our own little street party to congratulate the couple.

There has been much debate as to dress code regarding the Royal wedding, what is the most popular attire for such big events. There has been much speculation as to whether the formal uniform of top hat and tails are going to be the big hit or lounge jackets and dress jackets. The Telegraph reports Prime Minister David Cameron has been undecided as to what uniform would be most appropriate when attending. wedding party

We are all expecting Prince William to be dressed in his Military uniform as part of tradition and all our eyes eagerly await to see Kate’s dress, reported to be of her own choice and style, moving away from tradition of previous Royal weddings.

Whether people are digging out their ceremonial uniforms and heading to London, joining in street parties or watching it on the big screen, I’m sure tomorrow will be a great success and a Royal wedding to be remembered.

When wearing paramedic uniforms, leave out the silly socks!

An article posted by the BBC reports ambulance crews have faced a discipline on wearing silly socks as part of their ambulance clothing to work. Health chiefs have reported novelty socks with slogans and images are “inappropriate” and “unprofessional” whilst on duty. This new ambulance uniform policy includes shirts to be tucked in at all times, footwear to be fully polished and uniforms to be clean and laundered, the list goes on however many feel the silly socks ban is a step too far.

Many companies have strict uniform regulations, and such as the above they can be quite comical. However it does bring to light some items of clothing can be unprofessional depending on what profession you are in.

We will continue to keep you updated with recent uniform news articles, watch this space!

Wearing a security uniform makes you feel more secure – it’s official!

Wearing uniforms for security roles can provide all the benefits of looking smart, feeling part of a unified team and presenting a professional image to the public. However research by G4S Security Services (UK) have recently reported that uniforms can also help the wearer feel more secure.

It’s reported that by wearing a uniform, the wearer believes this reduces the likelihood of an attack or potential violent situation. According to G4S Security Services (UK) almost twice as many men than women believe this to be true.

Can security uniforms help you feel secure?

One thing the sexes did agree on was the purpose of security uniforms, both reaching the same conclusion of making the wearer more identifiable to the public and to create a corporate identity for their organisation.

This study will be interesting to security providers and security uniform suppliers alike, and seems to support the traditional idea that an authoritarian uniform engenders respect – particularly amongst the male population.

On our blog, we discuss every aspect of uniforms, and always blog at least three times a week. Check back for more thought-provoking topics, or why not leave a comment?

Office uniforms: the rules this summer!

office uniform ideal for summer months

uniform for office wear

I think we can all agree the recent sunny weather has proven summer is definitely on its way. Now is the time to be thinking of changing your office uniform to something more appropriate for the coming summer months ahead. Here are our top tips and rules on how to get it right this year.

  1. Relax your uniforms. Summer weather can sometimes bring a more relaxed feel to the office; therefore let your uniforms do the same. If stuck in a stifling hot office, why not ditch the heavy suit jacket and opt for a short sleeve blouse/shirt and waistcoat look. Still effortlessly smart with a pencil skirt for the ladies and coordinating lightweight trouser for the men.
  2. Layer up lighter fabrics. If in and out of the office, you may need to contend with uncertain temperatures. Layer up with a smart tank top in a cotton blend fabric with a cotton blouse/shirt. Light weight fabrics such as cotton, linen and summer-weight wool can make all the difference, if in an important meeting you don’t want to be worrying about feeling uncomfortable in your uniform.
  3. Don’t show too much flesh. No matter how hot it gets in the office, miniskirts and low cut tops are not a professional look. Office uniforms for women are adapting all the time. Garments such as lightweight under suit tops and corporate skirts can provide enough comfort in hot conditions whilst also keeping a professional image.
  4. Try corporate workwear i.e. polo’s, t-shirts. This smart/casual look is getting increasing popular within the office (see our “Smart or casual; which is best for in the office” blog for further details) and is an ideal uniform fit for the summer months. Choose coordinating men’s and ladies polo shirts or t-shirts with your branded company logo and this can provide a smart office image, while ensuring your staff are happy and comfortable in the uniform choice.

Check back for further useful tips and advice on your uniform needs, if you need a question answering or would like us to blog on something in-particular then please leave us a comment!

Company uniforms could be just as important outside work says Personnel Today?

By supplying branded uniforms for your team, from smart coordinating suits with pristine embroidered shirts to smart branded polo shirts or printed hi vis wear, you’re presenting a professional and unified image which reflects your company. But what if this image is jeopardised outside of work?

An article posted by Personnel Today says that staff members looking scruffy, smoking in public or displaying anti social behaviour whilst in their company uniform can easily give your company a bad name. It points out that you don’t stop being an employee when you walk out of the door; you’re still representing your company all the time you’re wearing your company logo.

But rather than the traditional approach  of setting rules about dress and behaviour, the branding experts recommend a softer, more inclusive approach of instilling the brand values in staff from the outset, so they’re more likely to instinctively act in an appropriate way- with encouragement from colleagues or supervisors where needed.

A key conclusion to draw from the study is the need to provide staff with a uniform that staff are happy to wear.  Choosing a uniform company that offers high quality, comfortable and flattering uniforms means staff don’t feel they have to make their uniforms look scruffy, e.g. un-tuck shirts, the instant they walk out of the door. A uniform should make employees look and feel good – then they will be happy to wear it.
