Croydon Council Hold Their Annual JRSO’s Mayoral Presentation – What A Great Day!
Croydon Councils annual Junior Road Safety Officers Mayoral Presentation took place on March 27th this year. This year 36 schools took part, that’s just under 200 pupils altogether. At the presentation, the JRSO’s get rewarded for their good work in school. Here at Keltic Clothing we were honoured to supply the children with mini replicas of school crossing patrol uniforms consisting of two tone jackets and school crossing patrol signs from our Road Safety Education Range.
Throughout the year, each school must complete 2 Road Safety activities well to be able to qualify for the event. At the presentation, each school gets presented with a certificate as a reward for their achievements usually presented by the Mayor of Croydon. On this occasion it was the deputy Mayor councillor Tony Harris and his wife Mrs Harris who came to present the certificates.
Other attendees included representatives from TFL (Transport for London) and the legendary David Prowse MBE – The Green Cross Code Man! The Green Cross Code man commercials were hugely successful, over 14 years David visited over 2,000 schools and the road accidents in the UK were reduced from over 40,000 per year to less than 20,000. It also helped that David was also famous for a number of other things including playing Darth Vader in Star Wars. David Prowse spent time kindly autographing the children’s certificates.
The presentation ceremony was packed full of activities and different things. Before each child was presented with their certificate they walked over a zebra crossing and one school was picked to sing a road safety song that they had made up all by themselves – what a great success!! At the end of the presentation, each child is given a hi vis yellow goody bag containing all sorts of road safety themed goodies as a big well done to everyone for taking part.
We’d like to say a big thank you to Trevor Benham, a Road Safety Officer at Croydon Council for working with us and here’s what Trevor had to say “Eight JRSOs were selected to wear the SCP uniform. They found it a great delight marshalling other children and adults to their seats and were standing next to the exits as evacuation procedures were pointed out. You could see clearly that they thoroughly enjoyed their responsibilities and the uniforms were a big icing on the cake”
