What Makes The Perfect SCP Stop Sign?

What Makes The Perfect SCP Stop Sign?

A School Crossing Patrol’s job can be tiring. They work in every weather, on their feet constantly, carrying around a particularly cumbersome object: a stop sign. Five years ago we set ourselves a mission to make SCP’s jobs easier. We decided to drastically improve the SCP stop sign. After a great deal of research on what would make the perfect stop sign, here’s what we came up with.

What Makes the Perfect SCP Stop Sign?

With the help of a multitude of UK councils, we spent eighteen months researching the shortcomings of existing stop signs, making changes to improve their designs. Our research culminated in a list of key areas that needed improving:

  • Weight. Existing signs were too heavy. Our signs needed to be the lightest in the UK, making it easier for SCP’s to carry them around all day.
  • Robustness. Existing signs were too flimsy. We would use special composite materials to make our signs highly robust and sturdy.
  • Comfort. Existing signs didn’t feature ergonomically-designed handles. Our signs would have a long, comfortable grip.
  • Portability. Existing signs could not be folded down. Our signs would be optionally available as two-piece items, so that they could be halved in size when not in use. To further improve portability we’d offer a purpose-designed carry case for our two-piece signs to be stored in.

Bingo

We had it. With our list of vital improvements at the ready, all that was left was to implement them. The result? The perfect SCP Stop Sign. But it’s all well and good us saying that… what do the people who use these signs every day think about them?

What Do SCP’s Think About Our Signs?

Andrena Hadley, SCP supervisor at Sandwell Council, passed on the following feedback from her SCP’s:

“The weight of signs has always been an issue. My patrols are happy that the new sign is lighter and also commented that despite being lighter in weight, the sign actually feels more robust and stable in the wind. My patrols also love the fact that the two pieces of the sign lock together with a clip, which make it less of a fiddle to carry and helps protect the sign as the parts won’t bang together in the car.”
